About IN SYNC

A writing workshop series for people who keep meaning to write.

IN SYNC is a community writing series rooted in Jackson Heights, Queens. We bring together writers at all levels, who are navigating diaspora and cultural identities, carrying more than one culture or one language, and looking to grow more than one version of themselves. By joining us, you give yourself permission to write — no matter how many life priorities you have.

The workshops are led by Qionglu, a writer who's been hosting workshops for almost a decade. At IN SYNC, you might produce polished work, or you might not. Either is ok. The goal is to make writing feel possible again, and to build a community around the act of putting your experience on the page.

What to expect

Every IN SYNC workshop is a mix of the following, in some combination depending on the theme:

  • Discussion We start by getting to know each other a bit. What are you reading and writing about? We also chat about the theme, a question, or an idea that connects to the writing.
  • Reading Sometimes we read short pieces of writing — a few paragraphs or pages — to spark something.
  • Writing Always available: guided time to write. Prompts are provided. No experience necessary.
  • Sharing Reading aloud, if you choose. The room listens. No pressure, ever.

Who it's for

Anyone who wants to write but hasn't found the time, the reason, or the right room. Writers who are new to the page and writers who've been writing for years. People who grew up between languages. People who live in Queens and want to find their people.
